{"id":9605,"date":"2021-01-07T14:07:33","date_gmt":"2021-01-07T06:07:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.seda.gov.my\/2021\/01\/energy-minister-buy-energy-efficient-products-help-reduce-carbon-emissions\/"},"modified":"2021-01-07T14:09:22","modified_gmt":"2021-01-07T06:09:22","slug":"energy-minister-buy-energy-efficient-products-help-reduce-carbon-emissions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.seda.gov.my\/ms\/energy-minister-buy-energy-efficient-products-help-reduce-carbon-emissions\/","title":{"rendered":"Energy Minister: Buy energy-efficient products, help reduce carbon emissions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>PUTRAJAYA: Malaysians have been encouraged to play their part in reducing carbon emissions by using more energy-efficient products.<\/p>\n<p>Energy and Natural Resources Minister Datuk Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah said on Thursday (Jan 7) that the country can potentially reduce carbon emissions by about 40,000 tonnes a year through the government\u2019s \u201cSustainability Achieved via Energy Efficiency\u201d (Save 2.0) programme.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Save 2.0 incentive programme aims to encourage consumers to practice energy efficient practices while contributing to energy consumption savings and lower electricity bills.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAbout 150,000 households in the country are expected to benefit from this programme.<\/p>\n<p>\n\u201cThe government is also aiming for about RM22.26mil worth of energy savings as well as to reduce 39,164 tonnes of carbon emissions per year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis also translates to 56,340 trees that need to be planted for 10 years to absorb that amount of carbon.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo, by taking part in this programme, you are playing your part in reducing carbon emissions, \u201d said Shamsul Anuar at a press conference after launching the programme at his ministry here.<\/p>\n<p>The Save 2.0 programme was approved during Budget 2021 with an allocation of RM30mil.<\/p>\n<p>Shamsul Anuar explained that the programme provides a RM200 e-rebate to households purchasing air conditioners or refrigerators with a minimum 4-star energy efficiency rating by the Energy Commission.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe appliances must be manufactured locally or have obtained Sirim certification in Malaysia.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis rebate is limited to one account only for every purchase of air conditioner or refrigerator in 2021 or until the quota runs out, whichever comes first.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnly Malaysian citizens who are owners of domestic tariff electricity accounts registered with utility companies (TNB, SESB, SEB and NUR Power) are eligible to apply, \u201d said Shamsul Anuar.<\/p>\n<p>One way users can apply and obtain the e-rebate is by bringing their latest electricity bills and making purchases physically at electrical shops registered under the Save 2.0 programme.<\/p>\n<p>This can be done starting Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Another method is through online purchases, and the e-rebate application via Shopee Malaysia, which has been available since Jan 1.<\/p>\n<p>A list of brands and models of energy efficient electrical equipment under the programme can be found by visiting the official website at www.saveenergy.gov.my or through the microsite provided on the e-commerce platform.<\/p>\n<p>Users can also find eligibility criteria and learn how to apply for e-rebate on the website.<\/p>\n<p>Shamsul Anuar also advised users to refer to the recommended purchase price list on the website to make price comparisons.<\/p>\n<p>Source: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thestar.com.my\/news\/nation\/2021\/01\/07\/energy-minister-buy-energy-efficient-products-help-reduce-carbon-emissions\">The Star<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>PUTRAJAYA: Malaysians have been encouraged to play their part in reducing carbon emissions by using more energy-efficient products.
